Apple and Samsung are reportedly planning to
ditch, giving out free chargers with their new smartphones.
Just days after rumours hit
that Apple wouldn’t include a charger in the box with its iPhone
12, Apple biggest rival Samsung now rumoured to do the
same thing with future smartphones. Rumours also suggest that
free headphones could also be ditch. However, we’ll need to wait for
the official words from Samsung and Apple.
The report says that removing chargers from phones
boxes could be a way for Samsung and Apple to save the company some
money and reduce the costs of selling their phones and make their phone
packaging smaller. Still, on the positive side, it could also have a
significant impact on the environment as almost every Samsung
and Apple users have a charger already anyway.
However, if the rumours are correct, then it’s not good news
for those who don’t already own a suitable charger and would then have to buy
one by paying some extra bucks.

The primary purpose of this is to prevent Electronic
waste. Nowadays, E-waste is a big problem. 20 to 50 million metric tons of
e-waste are disposed of worldwide every year. In future, it will
be a much bigger problem. And it is hard to recycle E-waste. It
cost too much money to recover E-waste. So, to reduce
E-waste, Apple and Samsung are taking a big step by not giving
charger and earphones in the box.
Talking about Apple, Is it Apple’s strategy to make some
profit? Maybe! Apple could be causing this move
for purely selfish reasons, charging the same amount of money and
giving a customer less. That means people who don’t already have a charger
will be made to buy one – and oh, boy!
Apple’s chargers aren’t that cheap.
As Marques Brownlee[MKBHD] tweeted, “Classic Apple,
about to make a LOT of money creating a problem and selling the solution.”
